As part of their 10th Annual Pancake Tuesday campaign, Sunset Grill served up pancakes for $1 each this February 13. All proceeds were donated to the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) to raise funds for research, support services for patients and their families and other important work.
All 72 franchised locations in Ontario participated in the event. “Sunset Grill has always found importance in contributing to charitable initiatives, and I am grateful that we have our communities’ support in creating a meaningful impact on an issue that has affected the lives of so many Canadians,” said Angelo Christou, founder and CEO of Sunset Grill Restaurants Ltd. The company has donated $72,855 to the CCS since the campaign launched in 2009. “Last year, we raised more than $22,000, and I look forward to seeing how much we can raise this year for our 10th anniversary,” said Christou before the event.
In appreciation of Sunset Grill’s long-standing commitment to the fight against cancer, the CCS bestowed the company with a Corporate Champion Award for Community Impact. This award recognizes an organization that has provided significant financial support to the Canadian Cancer Society, embraced its mission and has become a valued partner. The award presentation took place at Sunset Grill’s Stockyards location (60 Weston Road, Toronto) at 11 a.m. on February 13, 2018.
“We are very thankful for the generous and dedicated support of Sunset Grill. It couldn’t have come a more urgent time. Due to our aging and growing population, the number of cancer cases in Canada is expected to rise dramatically by 2030,” says Heather Norris, manager of corporate partnerships for the Canadian Cancer Society in Ontario. “We are counting on corporate partners and everyday Canadians to ensure that we can meet the surging demand for the work we do.”
Beyond awareness, the Canadian Cancer Society is taking action against 100+ cancers by:
- funding high-quality cancer research
- educating Canadians about cancer prevention, screening and early detection
- providing information and support services to those living with cancer and their families
- taking a stand on important cancer issues and influencing government to pass public policies aimed at preventing cancer and helping people living with cancer
For 10 years, Sunset Grill has been dedicated to the fight against cancer. The franchise hopes to gain support from their loyal regulars and new customers while at the same time delivering on the core values guests have come to expect from Sunset Grill: delicious, fresh-made food, served promptly with a smile.
