Kumon North America opened two centres in Ontario that will bring new digital learning options to students.
The centres, Oshawa-Thornton and Thorold-Glendale Avenue, will include Kumon Connect, the company’s new, educational enrichment platform. Kumon Connect promotes active learning for students, families and the next generation of franchisees who want to do assessments and more on a tablet rather than paper.
That digital access to learning math and reading skills is what attracted Thirumagal Sri, the Instructor of the Oshawa – Thornton centre, to Kumon.
“In today’s digital world, I want to use every tool I can to enhance the math and literacy skills of children in my community,” Sri said. “When I worked as a classroom teacher at the elementary level, I noticed that some students who also attended Kumon were able to improve their mental math skills. This caused me to recall my own positive experiences as a Kumon Student when I realized that setting goals and practicing is the key to academic success.”
Students sign in to a web-based application, where they can see their graded worksheets from the previous day, access their homework and track their progress. Instructors can use the technology to “replay” students’ work, provide feedback and update lesson plans accordingly. Also, parents can monitor their children’s progress in real time through the application. Kumon Connect truly increases the connection between students and Instructors and the value of Kumon for families.
