Beertown brings ‘Belgian Beer Week’ to Ontario

First-ever ‘Belgian Beer Week’ in Ontario celebrates centuries of brewing tradition with world-class pours at all Beertown locations.

Beertown is raising a glass to one of the world’s richest brewing traditions with its first-ever ‘Belgian Beer Week,’ running Sept. 5-14 at all Beertown locations.

Inspired by Brussels’ Belgian Beer Weekend – when the city’s Grand Place turns into an open-air beer village with more than 50 family breweries – Beertown is bringing the celebration to Ontario.

“This week is about sharing Belgium’s brewing legacy with our guests,” says Jen Tamse, Director of Beer and Beverage at Beertown. “From centuries-old abbey ales to modern styles, ‘Belgian Beer Week’ is a chance to taste history in every glass.”

As the largest distributor of Belgian beer in the province, Beertown partners with McLelland Imports to bring world-class brews to Canada.

The company has long championed Belgian brewing, a commitment that has earned international recognition. Tamse and Beertown CEO Jody Palubiski were both knighted by the Knighthood of the Brewers’ Paddle, a centuries-old Belgian honour for contributions to beer culture.

Each year, Beertown also sends managers to Belgium to experience the festival firsthand.

The ‘Belgian Beer Week’ lineup features 10 Belgian brews, including:

  • Chimnay Blue – a Trappist dark ale with notes of fig, raisin, caramel and spice.
  • Orval – a Trappist pale ale brewed at Orval Abbey since 1931, known for hop brightness and Brettanomyces character.
  • Averbode Abbey Ale – a golden strong ale with pear, citrus and clove, brewed by Huyghe Brewery, makers of Delirium Tremens.
  • Lindemans Kriek – a cherry lambic with sour fruit and tartness.
  • Oud Beersel Oude Geuze Vieille – a blend of lambics aged up to three years, with acidity and wild character.
  • Paranoia – a Belgian-style session IPA from Huyghe with tropical fruit and citrus notes.

“I cannot wait for our guests to try some of these incredible Belgian beers,” says John Mackay, President of Beertown. “Belgium has one of the most amazing beer cultures in the world, and we’re excited to share it at our locations.”

‘Belgian Beer Week’ runs Sept. 5-14 at all Beertown Public House locations. More details are available at beertown.ca.
