Carmen and Erick Hofer have owned their Minuteman Press design, marketing, and printing franchise in Ellerslie for one year. Through their creativity, ability to produce custom orders and their overall heart, Carmen and Erick have worked hard to establish themselves as the go-to printer and trusted business partner in and around Ellerslie.
Carmen says, “We are a think outside-the-box printing and marketing company. We can offer products and services that other print shops can’t offer. We can do custom orders on everything. That’s what makes us different, and we love what we do.”
Recently, Minuteman Press Edmonton Ellerslie has produced specialty jobs such as food truck wraps, CD covers, and even a custom design for a pool table. This is in addition to the wide variety of products and services they offer including traditional printing essentials (business cards, brochures, banners, postcards) and modern day marketing necessities (promotional products, custom branded apparel).
One of the most rewarding things for Carmen and Erick has been the people they get to work with and their unique ability to create and bring their visions to life.
Carmen says, “I love that we can meet our clients’ needs and see how happy they are with our work. We are so proud of what we’re able to produce while helping them with their business. We have worked just about anyone and everyone – dentists, lawyers, churches … so many great people and businesses. I’ve learned so many things and that’s been really cool.”
From Sign Language Interpreter to Printing Franchise Owner
Before joining the #1 rated Minuteman Press franchise family, Carmen Hofer was a sign language interpreter while Erick worked as a plant operator for Rio Tinto.
Carmen says, “I ran a baby sign language program that I developed and then I was able to sell it. We attended a franchise show in Edmonton and originally we were looking for a business for Erick. When we went home and did our research, we found that Minuteman Press was something we both could do. It really suited me and my creative side, since I have experience with crafts and home staging. I love producing and creating, and we really valued the Minuteman Press franchise.”
Carmen adds, “The background, support, and training provided by Minuteman Press also appealed to us. It is nice to have that extra layer of guidance as we continue to build our business.”
Stepping Up in Time of Tragedy
On April 6, 2018, the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team was involved in a fatal bus crash in Saskatchewan. Through this unspeakable tragedy, people across Canada and the entire world came together to help those families who were forever changed. Like their neighbors and friends and many others, Carmen and Erick were no different in wanting to do something to help.
Carmen explains, “We went down to the local University and had t-shirts, pins, ribbons and car decals that we created to help the affected families. We raised over $4,000 for those families, with 100% of the proceeds going to them. To be able to do our small part to help them meant a lot to us.”
What’s next for Minuteman Press Edmonton Ellerslie?
Carmen says, “I’d like to see our business continue to grow, to be part of the community, to be a place that people know about that they can come to for a trusted printer and business partner.”
